I just bought a new buffing mandrel. This new one is larger than my old
one, so I need to replace my buffs. I need 10" dia. with a 1" hole. I guess
canton flannel is probably best, but I'm open to suggestions. I can't seem
to find a supplier, so if anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be
most appreciative. Also, do you think it would be advisable to go to a 12"
buff? I think a 1" shaft should handle that ok.

Craig, go with at minimum a 12" wheel, 14" if you can find them. I don't know a supplier off the top of my head, but somebody here will. Did you try Parma or Grizzly?

Caswell has a large selection of buffing wheels...often priced at 2 for 1.

Here is the link to Caswell. As JJ mentioned, they usually have good sales.

I use the Caswell 14" Canton Flannel. They are great.

Brock,

Do you use just one or do you put two together as the Stew-mac set-up suggests?

Oh ya! What compounds do you use?

Thanks

I have 2 together. They are pretty thin to use 1 at a time.

And what compounds do you use?

Thanks Brock

I have the menzerna (sp) compounds from course through very fine. I got them at Grizzly. I think Stewmac carries all of them too. Depending on the finish, how far I have sanded it, etc. I start buffing with different compunds.

Thanks everyone. Since I posted my inquiry I ran across Caswell doing a
Google search. Looks like that's the place. I'll try the 14" canton flannel
buffs. Maybe I'll shine my shoes while I'm at it! Thanks again.

Thanks for the info Brock, I just ordered one (2 actually with the 1 free) and a wheel rake. Good source.

Craig, another place you might consider is http://www.jestcoproducts.com/

They will make-up buffing wheels to your specifications i.e. diameter, thickness and arbor size if you can't find what you are looking for on their website.Anthony Z38616.9874305556

doug

you do realize that you need a different set of buffs for each grade of buffing compound used?

Post subject:

Yeah, I have 3 other buffs. But thanks for thinking of me. I also have the medium and fine menzerma sticks.
